PG&E regularly prunes trees near their high-voltage power lines, even if the tree is on private property.  Best Management Practices for pruning trees near high-voltage power lines differ from typical or aesthetic pruning practices.  If you would like more information regarding why and how PG&E prunes trees near high-voltage power lines, PG&E has made a very informative video available on the PG&E website

Landscape trees, particularly those that are not well established, can be stressed by Benicia's extended dry season and strong winds.  While the City is actively reducing landscape water use and encourages residents to do the same, it is important to ensure that you provide sufficient water to enable the trees in your landscape to survive.  This UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardener article provides useful insights to help keep your trees healthy during drought conditions.

The Parks & Community Services Department is pleased to announce that the City of Benicia has been recognized as a Tree City USA for our 12th year in 2020.  In order to become a Tree City USA cities must have a tree ordinance, tree committee/board, spend at least $2 per capita on trees, and have an annual Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

This year we will be celebrating Arbor Day in October to take advantage of the fall/winter rains to help establish the trees and minimize the need for supplemental manual watering.  More information Arbor Day will be posted soon.
