Donation and Collection Bins
Any donation and collection bin on a property must receive approval of a zoning permit from the Benicia Community Development Department. Donation and collection bins are only permitted in certain areas of the city as described in the Benicia Municipal Code. The Planning Division will review the location and dimensions of the bin, among other standards that can also be found in the ordinance.
Applications for a zoning permit should be submitted to the Planning Division located at 250 E L Street. The zoning permit application fee for a donation and collection bin is $250 for non-profit organizations and $500 for other types of organizations. All operators of a donation and collection bin will need to complete an application unless they are found to be exempt.
