Before & After School Recreation Program
New Lottery Process!!!! NOW OVER!!!!
The City of South San Francisco Parks & Recreation Department will be accepting lottery applications for the available spaces at the licensed After School Recreation Programs at Buri Buri, Monte Verde, Ponderosa, and Spruce Elementary Schools, and the REAL Programs at Los Cerritos and Martin Elementary Schools. Enrollment in the program will be determined by lottery.
Lottery applications for the After School Recreation Program will be accepted from April 1 – 11, 2019. Applications can be submitted via one of the following options:
- E-mail at AfterSchoolLottery@ssf.net
- Drop off at the Joseph Fernekes Recreation Building at 781 Tennis Drive in Orange Park. Business hours are Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
- Mail to Recreation Department c/o Childcare Division, 33 Arroyo Drive, South San Francisco, CA, 94080 -Must be received by April 11th
Please note that your lottery odds do not change based on when you drop off your application. You will only need to fill out a single form to complete the lottery registration for all programs as marked. Participants will be notified the week of April 22nd as to if they received a spot or are placed on a waitlist.
After discussing a number of options, a lottery was decided as the best way to maintain our current registration system but also provide an equal chance for anyone to attend. The drop off for the lottery will be open for several days; therefore, it will not matter at all when families submit their lottery registration as long as they are received by April 11th at 5:00 p.m.
We are still implementing priority registration for children/families currently enrolled in our childcare programs. A yearly waiting list is established at each site. The waiting list is only maintained for the current school year and does not carry over to the next year. A new waiting list is established each year.
All families interested in the lottery can only submit a form for their legal children. We do not allow families to register friends or other family members in this process.
Licensed After School Recreation Program
The Licensed After School Recreation Program is designed for children enrolled in Kindergarten- 5th Grade. They are licensed through the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing. Our Programs operate in accordance with the South San Francisco Unified School District days of operation calendar. The program is offered Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Each program is designed as an expanded learning program to meet the academic, emotional, physical, and social needs and interests of the children enrolled. The program provides some academic support, recreation activities, and cultural enrichment through a play-based curriculum. Many of the activities planned for the children enrolled meet the CORE curriculum standards as we actively partner with the schools to ensure the children are on a pathway to a successful academic career. A before school care only package is offered as well as part-time and full-time schedules. For more information or to get put on a waiting list click here.
ASES R.E.A.L. Program
The R.E.A.L. (Recreation, Enrichment and Learning) After School Program is funded by the State of California. The R.E.A.L. Program is located at Martin Elementary School and Los Cerritos Elementary School.
The purpose of our program is to expand learning beyond the school day and beyond classroom doors and walls. Our program compliments, supports and enhances daily classroom instruction. The program, while structured, provides staff and students with choices. Our program encourages creativity, imagination and flexibility. Our program focuses on creating educational projects that make learning fun. Students participate in a balance of individual activities, small and large group activities, indoor and outdoor activities, and quiet as well as active play. FULL OF FUN Camp
The Full of Fun Camp came about as a result of parents of teens and young adults with disabilities asking about summer programs. In 2007 we designed and implemented our first camp. The goal was simple. To offer a camp for these special teens and adults that allows them to just “hang out” with their non-disabled peers. Full of Fun Camp operates for 3 weeks during the summer from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and once a month during the school year with our Nights Of Fun. For more information about our program or volunteering please contact Laura Armanino or Kimberly Morrison at 650-875-6900.
Staff Qualifications
All coordinators, teachers, and staff of our programs are experienced and trained in the areas of child development, recreation, supervision, curriculum, first aid, and CPR.
