A brand new park is being created at the Oakland end of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Its working title is Gateway Park.
When completed, the park will cover some 170 acres from the new Bay Bridge East Span to Mandela Parkway in West Oakland.

There will be public access to the waterfront, and amazing vistas of the bay and the new bridge.
The park will also connect the East Span bike/pedestrian path with the local bike path network and the Bay Trail.
Gateway Park will highlight the industry, infrastructure and ecology that have shaped the history of this spectacular stretch of shoreline.

The Gateway Park Working Group is made up of public agencies that include:
- BATA
- Association of Bay Area Governments
- Caltrans
- California Transportation Commission
- East Bay Municipal Utilities District
- East Bay Regional Park District
- City of Oakland
- Port of Oakland
- San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission
Due to funding constraints and the varying timelines for the availability of different sections of land, Gateway Park likely will be developed in phases.
Portions will open to the public as they are completed, with remaining segments constructed as funding allows and as land becomes available. The project anticipates private sector and philanthropic participation.
