The Department of Pathology is pleased to offer a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology. We accept individuals who aim to practice in academic medicine or community practice.

The goal of the Pediatric Pathology fellow will be to gain competency, proficiency and diagnostic excellence in the practice of Pediatric Pathology.

As defined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), “Pediatric Pathology is the practice of pathology concerned with the study and diagnosis of human disease manifested in the embryo, fetus, infant, child and adolescent.”  

The fellowship is a one-year training program.

The fellow will participate in the following clinical rotations:

• Autopsy
• Biochemical Genetics
• Cytogenetics
• Dermatopathology
• Forensics 
• Hematopathology
• Molecular Pathology
• Neuropathology
• Surgical Pathology

Dedicated research and elective weeks are also allotted.  

Each fellow is required to participate in at least one research project and one Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement project.

An additional optional educational opportunity is available for applicants with an interest in enrolling in the Masters of Science degree program offered by Stanford University.  

This opportunity is available to trainees who have successfully completed the one year Pediatric Pathology fellowship.

Applicants must apply and be accepted to a Masters of Science degree program of their choice via the normal graduate application process.  Tuition and salary support can be obtained through grants awarded by the Child Health Research Institute.

If funding is not awarded through these grant opportunities, the Department of Pathology may fund tuition and salary for trainees directly.
