1. Autumn, winter, spring: nine medical school units each quarter (medical school course work include all courses and research units offered through the medical school).

No financial aid will be disbursed to a student who completes less than the minimum. Units for a course dropped will not be included.

2.Academic deficiencies must be corrected within the time frame established by the Committee on Performance, Professionalism and Promotion (CP3).

  • Advanced degrees outside of the medical school do not qualify for financial aid funding through the medical school.

  • A student who has completed the degree requirements, with the exception of the ACLS, will not be eligible for financial aid funding.

Maximum Financial Aid and Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal regulations require that students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive federal financial aid. The following policy and standards apply.

For students in the M.D. program: five years (i.e. 20 quarters).

For M.D. students working on a master's degree at the medical school: six years (i.e. 23 quarters)

Funding beyond the maximum time frames will only be available upon appeal and approval of student's Academic Advisor and the Financial Aid Director.

Periods of approved leaves of absence are excluded.

Student aademic progress(SAP)  is monitored by the Medical School Registrar which notifies the FAO and the CP3 of students whose academic progress may be in question.

Upon notification of insufficient SAP, the FAO will place students on a "Financial Aid Warning".  Under the Financial Aid Warning, students may continue to receive aid for an additional term, e.g. successfully completing enrollment rquriements for the term. If the student has not met the requirement by the end of the warning period, then they become ineligible for further assistance (financial aid suspension).

The student may appeal the financial aid suspension decision and be placed on "Financial Aid Probation" and continue to receive assistance. The student then has one academic year (CP3 will determine length of remediation period) to meet the minimum standards or meet the requirements of an "academic plan" as developed by CP3.

Financial Need

  • All financial aid is based on demonstrated financial need.  Merit based financial aid is not offered.
  • To determine need, you, your parents and your spouse must provide all financial information fully and accurately. For  students 30 years of age by the start of the academic year parental information is waived.

Change in Financial Status

  • Students are required to notify the FAO of any change in their financial circumstances during the year.

  • Failure to report changes including marital status, parental income and assets, scholarship aid, work income, etc., may result in loss of aid, revision of past awards, serious disciplinary action, or all three.
