Diagnosing Kidney Failure

We will begin the diagnosis by performing a physical examination and asking you about your medical history. Be sure to tell us about any symptoms you have been experiencing.

Diagnostic Procedures for Kidney Failure

Other diagnostic tests include:

• Blood tests, to determine blood cell counts, electrolyte levels and kidney function
• Urine tests
• Chest X-ray
• Bone scan
• Renal ultrasound, a noninvasive test that helps determine the size and shape of the kidney and can detect a mass, kidney stone, cyst, or other obstruction or abnormalities.
• Electrocardiogram (ecg or ekg)
• Kidney biopsy
