Depending on your specific needs, we may use a single treatment, or we may combine therapy options to give you the best results. Our expertise includes care for the following conditions:
- Prediabetes
- Type 1 diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes
- Gestational diabetes
- Post-transplant diabetes
- Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD)
As an academic medical center, we get firsthand experience with new technology and innovations in diabetes care. Our providers are at the forefront of diabetes prevention, management, and treatment.
INNOVATION HIGHLIGHT
Stanford successfully introduced the use of hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery systems in children ages 7 to 14 with type 1 diabetes. The system adjusts insulin levels based on automatic sensor readings. This advanced technology improves glucose control and significantly decreases the risk for overnight seizures and other long-term complications linked with type 1 diabetes.
Self-Care Support
At Stanford, our highly experienced staff works together to determine the most effective treatment plan for you. Because diabetes is a lifelong disease, our Certified Diabetes Educators®, endocrinologists, and other specialists will provide continuous, supportive care to help you manage the condition to achieve optimal health. Prevention
If you receive a prediabetes diagnosis, it means you have abnormally high blood sugar levels. If you don’t take action, prediabetes can lead to type 2 diabetes. At Stanford, we will come up with a tailored plan to reverse prediabetes. The plan will include working with you to make long-term lifestyle changes.
Your diabetes care team supports you in developing healthy habits such as:
- Quitting smoking
- Practicing portion control
- Eating more fruits and vegetables
- Practicing mindfulness
- Lowering your body mass index (BMI) to below 30
- Increasing physical activity
You don’t have to do all of these at one time. In fact, we encourage small, sustainable steps so you can keep these healthy habits for the long term. Your provider and diabetes care team will check in with you and offer support throughout your entire journey. Learn more about our prevention care »
Clinical Trials
Our diabetes specialists participate continuously in clinical trials on research topics such as diabetes technology and insulin resistance. We also collaborate with the Stanford Diabetes Research Center and Pediatric Endocrinology College, which participates in clinical trials on technology specifically for type 1 diabetes. You’ll have access to the latest therapies for diabetes in a wide variety of breakthrough clinical trials.
