Stanford Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Mitochondria Research
We have an opening for 1 full-time postdoctoral fellow (immediately available) in the laboratory of Y. Joyce Liao, M.D. Ph.D. in the Department of Ophthalmology to conduct research in mitochondria and calcium.
Position Description:
The postdoctoral fellow will work as part of Dr. Liao’s lab to perform research in mitochondria, which is highly relevant to human and animal vision research. Our focus is on optic neuropathies, which includes studies of retinal ganglion cells, axon, and glia in health and in disease. Our study focuses on diseases with mitochondrial calcification, especially an optic neuropathy called optic disc drusen, which is found in about 2% of the general population and can cause vision loss.
The goals of these studies are to better understand the factors that contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction, altered calcium homeostasis, leading to irreversible loss of neurons and vision and to identify effective treatment options, including neuroprotection, stem cell therapy, and functional recovery approaches.
Requirements:
Completion of PhD, MD, or MD/PhD training and a track record of writing and publication. Must have previous experience with mitochondria research. Prefer those with knowledge or comfort with calcium-related studies.
