Stanford Mental Health Outreach

SMHO is a student group at Stanford that aims to raise awareness about mental health and advocate for students experiencing mental health issues. We put on panels in dorms and community centers, host connection groups where students can discuss mental health and share their experiences with one another, and work with other groups to host mental health-focused events on campus.

Our organization will allow students do engage in service within the Stanford community as a part of our effort to start conversations about mental health and mental illness on campus. Students will be able to engage by being a part of our organization's core and helping with event planning, organizing panels in student dorms, participating in broader campus conversations, and building our presence on social media. Their exact role can be flexible depending on their individual interests (specific examples include representing SMHO in the Mental Health and Wellness Coalition, spearheading all-campus events, and reaching out to community centers to collaborate on educational campaigns).

Service required by group to fulfill a Cardinal Commitment: Students should commit to a role within SMHO's core. The SMHO core meets once a week for about an hour, and core members work to advance individual projects which can include event planning, organizing panels in student dorms, building social media presence, and working on educational campaigns.
