Phase I of VTA's BART Silicon Valley Extension is the 10-mile, two station, Berryessa Extenion. This extension of the BART system begins at the Warm Springs station in Fremont, proceeds through Milpitas and ends in the Berryessa area of north San Jose. The extension brings commuters into Silicon Valley with convenient connections to VTA bus, light rail, and bicycle and pedestrian trails that serve major employers including Cisco Systems, Adobe and Ebay. New developments, including housing, commercial and retail space, are being built near the future station areas.

The two stations feature:
• Parking structures
• Bus transit centers
• Bicycle and pedestrian connections
• Easy, convenient access to the BART system and VTA transit:

– a half-mile walk for nearly 30,000 local residents
– less than a 12-minute bike ride for 260,000 people
– just 15 minutes via public transit or automobiles for more than 1,007,000 local residents

When BART service to Santa Clara County begins, the Milpitas and Berryessa stations are intended to be served by two lines providing direct and connecting service to the entire BART system. Both station campuses will feature bus transit centers to connect with VTA services, private shuttle and passenger drop-off/pick-up areas, parking facilities, and convenient bicycle and pedestrian connections and storage. The Milpitas Station will include a direct connection to VTA’s Montague Light Rail Station, and the Berryessa Station will feature direct bus service to and from downtown San Jose timed to meet BART trains as well as connect to local bicycle and pedestrian trails.
