J. Patricia Wilson Smoot was nominated to the United States Parole Commission by President Barack Obama. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 16, 2010. On January 29, 2015 Commissioner Smoot became Vice Chairman of the agency. She was designated as Chairman on May 29, 2015. .
