11.21.2017
STANFORD, CALIF. – Stanford Health Care has recruited Eric Yablonka as its new Chief Information Officer. Yablonka joins the organization from the University of Chicago, Ill., where he served as CIO for 16 years. He has extensive experience developing and implementing technology strategies that align with academic medical center strategy, transforming how health care organizations operate.
“We are very pleased to have Eric on our team as Chief Information Officer, a role that grows in importance each day at health care organizations like Stanford Health Care,” said Stanford Health Care President and CEO David Entwistle. “His extensive academic medical center experience and commitment to research and innovation will be great assets as we continue to pursue innovation opportunities across the continuum of care and throughout our network.”
In 2016, Yablonka was named CIO of the Year by the Executive Club of Chicago and in 2007 was the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives’ “CIO of the Year.” He has been named to the "CIO 100" list by CIO Magazine multiple times and recognized by Information Week as one of the 25 most influential health care CIOs nationally.
At the University of Chicago, Yablonka was responsible for change management, strategy, development, acquisition, and delivery of information technology and services to the health system and the Biological Sciences Division of the university. He also led technology improvement efforts across supply chain, administrative management, clinical care delivery, patient and physician access, as well as development and implementation in two new hospital facilities and offsite ambulatory centers.
“It is an honor to serve at Stanford Health Care, one of the finest academic medical centers in the country,” said Yablonka. “The opportunity to support and improve patient care is very exciting. Also, the collaboration with leaders at the Stanford School of Medicine is a great opportunity to develop new and innovative technologies to support the research, teaching, and patient care missions.”
Before joining the University of Chicago, Yablonka served as VP and CIO at the Saint Raphael Healthcare System in New Haven, Conn., for six years. He has also held IT leadership roles at the Joint Commission, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Beaumont Health System. He earned an MBA from the Advanced Management Program in the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University and is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
