WHAT IS AMYLOIDOSIS?

Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by proteins abnormally depositing in a specific pattern in various organs in the body.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF AMYLOIDOSIS?

Symptoms can vary, depending on which organs are affected. They may include:

  • General fatigue
  • Voice changes
  • Dizziness upon standing
  • Abdominal bloating, especially after eating
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Swelling of the legs, ankles or tongue
  • Skin or nail changes
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Bleeding or easy bruising
HOW IS AMYLOIDOSIS DIAGNOSED?

A definitive diagnosis usually requires a biopsy, or removal of tissue, from an organ, bone marrow or abdominal fat.
