Geophysics graduate student Dongzhuo Li was presented with the Outstanding Student Presentation Award by the Japanese Geoscience Union for the lecture he gave at the AGU Joint Meeting in May of 2017. His presentation was entitled "Full Waveform Inversion with Nonlocal Similarity and Adaptive Sparsity-Promoting Regularization in the Gradient Domain", and Stanford was the only non-Japanese university represented in the student awards.
