How do I apply for an encroachment permit?
The encroachment permit application is available online: Click on the link Application Form. The applicant must fill out the permit application and attach three copies of a sketch/drawing of the proposed construction. You can mail it for review and approval to: Macedonio Nunez City of Saratoga- Public Works Department, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, CA 95070. fax it to: (408) 868-1218 Attention: Macedonio Nunez, or e-mail to: mnunez@saratoga.ca.us. After review and approval the signed encroachment permit application will be returned to the applicant with the standard permit conditions and if any additional conditions.

How do I report a burned out or malfunctioning street light?
You can report problems with street lights and traffic signals to Joan Smith in the Public Works Department at 408-868-1245 or jsmith@saratoga.ca.us. Please be sure to include  the specific address (if known) and intersection as well as the pole. Street light issues can also be reported online.
How do I report a pothole on my street?
 To report potholes, contact Joan Smith in the Public Works Department at (408) 868-1245 or jsmith@saratoga.ca.us. Potholes can also be reported online.
How do I report a trip hazard or broken gutter and sidewalk repair?
To report all repairs and sidewalk issues contact the Public works Department and provide a specific address location and intersection. Please call Joan Smith, 408-868-1245, or jsmith@saratoga.ca.us.

How do I report street and/or storm drain flooding?

How much does the encroachment permit cost?
  • Encroachment Application Fee - $500.00
  • Pipes, Drains & Conduits - $500.00
  • Utility Service Connections - $500.00
  • Routine O & M work by Utility Agencies - $500.00
  • Major Repairs or Capital Improvement by Utility Agencies - $2,500 plus 1.5% of estimated project valuation
  • Encroachment Permits for Real Estate Open House Signs for Each Real Estate Office - $50.00

How often are the streets swept?
All City streets are swept monthly except for Big Basin Way and the 4 Village Parking Lots which are swept weekly.

I am replacing my driveway; do I need an encroachment permit?

Is there a difference between a sidewalk repair and a trip hazard repair and what department is responsible for these repairs?
Yes, there is a difference between a trip hazard and sidewalk repair. A trip hazard is a raised piece of concrete between sections that is 1/2" or greater in height and only that section of concrete has to be repaired. A sidewalk repair requires the entire section of concrete to be removed and a new piece of concrete is installed. To report please call Joan Smith, 408-868-1245 or jsmith@saratoga.ca.us.
The traffic signal is malfunctioning what department do I contact?

During regular business hours contact the Macedonio Nunez in the Public Works Department at (408) 868-1218 or mnunez@saratoga.ca.us. After 5:00 PM and on weekends, contact County Communications at (408) 299-2507.

What is the City's Street Sweeping schedule?
The City's street sweeping schedule is available online. For additinoal information, contact Joan Smith in the Public Works Department at (408) 868-1245 or jsmith@saratoga.ca.us.

When do I need an oversize load permit?
Any heavy equipment or structure being hauled in the public street will require an oversize load permit. The permit fee is $25.

Where can I get sandbags?
Sand bags are self service and available 24 hours a day between November and April at the Corporation Yard, located at 19700 Allendale Avenue in Saratoga. Filled sandbags are also available at the Santa Clara Valley Water District located at 5905 Winfield Boulevard in San Jose.

Who is responsible for curb and gutter and/or sidewalk repairs?
The City repairs and maintains all sidewalks and curb and gutters on public streets within the City limits. The "Park Strip" (the area between the curb and sidewalk, including the driveway approach) is the property owner's responsibility to maintain.
