Our Mission
The mission of the Office of Community Health is to develop, implement, and integrate education, research and clinical training programs aimed at building leaders in community health and improving the health of underserved populations.
FOUNDATION OF OUR WORK
The purposeof the Office of Community Health is to identify and bridge the intersection between community-defined health needs and the School of Medicine's mission of medical education, research, and patient care. Our priorities are to create and sustain meaningful partnerships with community-based agencies and not-for-profits and to build a cadre of physicians with the knowledge and skills to impact health at a population level.

The Office of Community Health (OCH) is proud to introduce the 2015 class of Valley Fellows
For over 13 years, the Office of Community Health (OCH) has awarded Valley Fellowships to Stanford University medical students to work on a broad range of projects. Since its inception in 2002, the OCH has granted Valley Fellowship to over 75 Stanford medical students interested in working in community-based projects. Valley Fellows are matched with community partners in Santa Clara and Southern San Mateo counties who identify projects in areas of unmet needs. The Valley Fellows are selected for their interest in community health; their experience and skills which support project sustainability; their desire to fulfill a research gap; their leadership skills, and their drive to make a lasting contribution to community projects that may otherwise go unfulfilled. Please join the Office of Community Health in congratulating this exceptional group of medical students.
2015 Valley Fellows
Cecil Benítez is partnering with Latinas Contra Cáncer to develop a genetics training module to increase cancer health knowledge of promotoras de salud, lay community health workers.
Sara Johansen is partnering with Ravenswood Family Health Center (RFHC) to create a sustainable women’s health patient navigator program through the development of a model and training manual. (Project submission for fall 2015, pending approval).
Max Kligerman is partnering with Santa Clara County Public Health Department to design a model for transition to adult care for children with hearing loss and craniofacial anomalies living in Santa Clara County.
Jaclyn Konopka is partnering with Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (Brain Injury Support Group) to implement a buddy program to serve the brain injury support group in the Mid-Peninsula region of the SF Bay Area.
Veronica Manzo is partnering with Ravenswood Family Health Center to promote wellness in the East Palo Alto community by increasing access and utilization of the AquaFit wellness program.
Nancy Nkansah-Mahaney is partnering with Samaritan House to develop a guide for patients of mental health resources in San Mateo County.
Paige Qin is partnering with Ravenswood Family Health Center to establish a sustainable protocol for screening of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) clinic-wide.
Paula Trepman is partnering with Mayview Community Health Center to implement and evaluate a Hepatitis B screening and vaccination program based on Santa Clara County’s best-practices model.
