A study on scale: WhatsApp & Google Drive… the story of our integration

WhatsApp is one of the most popular mobile apps in the world, with over a billion users sending and receiving over 42 billion messages, photos, and videos every day. But what would happen if people lost or upgraded their phones? All these messages and memories would be gone. So we worked with WhatsApp to give their users the ability to back up their data to Google Drive and restore it when they setup WhatsApp on a new phone.

Love Drive but still using Office? Good news. There’s a handy plug-in that lets you open files from Drive, edit them in Office, and save back to Drive. It now works with Outlook, too. You can insert Drive files when composing or replying to emails, update sharing permissions, and save incoming attachments directly to Drive.

While previewing Office documents, reviewing PDFs, or listening to audio tracks, you can easily swipe between adjacent files in Drive. One tap of the Edit button will drop you into your favorite app where you can save back to Drive after you’ve finished making edits.
